To celebrate his exhibit that premiered at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in June 2019, Virgil Abloh partnered with Nike once again to produce a Nike Air Force 1. The Off-White x Air Force 1 Low ’07 Shoe. MCA’ features a varsity blue leather upper and a metallic silver Swoosh with prominent stitching and a signature red tag. For a full circle feel, the shoe harkens back to key design details from previous Off-White offerings, including the iconic zip tie and quoted branding.
The Nike Wmns Air Force 1 High Utility stands out in the ‘Force is Female’ pack, championing the next generation of trailblazing women. Arriving in November 2019, this women’s version features an ‘Echo Pink’ tonal scheme on the leather upper, a contrast tongue and prominent Swooshes. ‘Force’ and ‘Female’ are expressed on the ankle strap. The shoe has a sail-colored rubber sole with Air technology.
Released in July 2019, the Air Max 97 ‘Reflective Bred’ reimagines Christian Tresser’s famous running shoe with hi-vis details and a well-known hardwood colourway. Inspired by a bullet train, the wavy upper is highlighted with reflective strips and branding on the tongue that stands out in low light, making this a Nike shoe with 24/7 versatility. The two pull loops make it easy to get on and off, while the tumbled leather fender stands up to everyday wear and tear.
Virgil Abloh partnered with Nike to release an all-black Air VaporMax in March 2018, a spiritual successor to Abloh’s VaporMax design from ‘The Ten’ collection. The Off-White x Air VaporMax ‘Part 2’ features a Black Flyknit upper with matching laces and a Swoosh logo accented by a Red tie. Abloh’s signature “Off-White™ for NIKE” lettering on the medial side and a translucent VaporMax unit complete the look.
The Undefeated x Air Max 97 OG ‘Sail’ pays homage to Italy’s special relationship with the Air Max 97. The Gucci-inspired design features a white base upper, white patent leather fenders and a rippled Gorge Green/Speed Gucci-inspired mesh side panel stripe. Undefeated branding runs along the red stripe and the brand’s tally logo hits the sockliner. Released in September 2017 alongside a ‘Black’ colourway, the shoe celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Air Max 97 and the Los Angeles boutique’s 15th year serving West Coast sneakers.
