Released in Nikelab stores in September 2017, the Off-White x Air VaporMax was part of Virgil Abloh’s 10-pair collaboration with Nike and quickly became one of the most coveted sneakers of the year. The design features a Black Flyknit upper with an oversized Swoosh with White stitching, Orange accents, and a full-length blacked-out Air VaporMax sole. The shoe also features a throwback tongue and the collection’s quote motif can be found on the laces and side panels.
The Sacai x LDWaffle ‘Black Nylon’ offers a monochromatic take on one of the most popular sneaker collaborations of 2019. Like its predecessors, this pair features a dual-theme design in a hybrid runner that blends elements of Nike LDV and Waffle. Racer. An all-black nylon upper, with doubled-over Swooshes, lugs and laces, sits on a contrasting white elongated midsole.
Released in July 2019, the Air Max 97 ‘Reflective Bred’ reimagines Christian Tresser’s famous running shoe with hi-vis details and a well-known hardwood colourway. Inspired by a bullet train, the wavy upper is highlighted with reflective strips and branding on the tongue that stands out in low light, making this a Nike shoe with 24/7 versatility. The two pull loops make it easy to get on and off, while the tumbled leather fender stands up to everyday wear and tear.
Sacai and Nike collaborate again, with the Nike LDWaffle emerging from Paris Fashion Week at the Sacai SP19 show. Using a unique hybridization technique, the shoe blends two Nike runners from the archives: the Waffle Daybreak and the LDV. With two shoes coming together, a unique upper features a double Swoosh, double tongue, double heel counter, double eyelets and double laces. It has a blue and red upper that mixes suede, leather, and mesh, while a sculpted midsole juts out beyond the heel, adding an extra element of crazy design lines on an already chaotic shoe. A classic waffle outsole brings it all together, while Nike and Sacai branding can be seen on the back of the heel and insole.
This monochrome take on the Air Presto marks the second time Virgil Abloh and Nike have collaborated on this iconic silhouette. The July 2018 iteration came just a few months after its two-tone predecessor made its debut as part of Abloh and Nike’s ‘The Ten’ collection. This pair features an all-black finish, accented with unique touches including a plastic tie, a white Swoosh with bold zig-zag stitching, and script lines on the mid-quarter panel that allude to the shoe’s Beaverton origins.
